Welder / Fitter

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a strong understanding of the technical aspects of the Fabrication Shops daily work requirements, fabrication sequencing, processes, procedures.
  • Maintain a current understanding of the Shop estimating processes and procedures, current market pricing and other costing related information
  • Cut, grind, weld, read and interpret blueprints and sketches, create new blueprints as necessary.
  • Organize, direct, control and evaluate the Metal Shop’s objectives and goals, as related to the overall company strategic plan
  • Allocate, authorize, organize, monitor and report on Fab Shop material resources, human resources, and financial resources, with Executive Team approval
  • Establish and/or follow established administrative controls in relation to resources (material, human and financial)
  • Complete required administrative tasks in a timely and accurate manner (e.g. time sheets, material requisitions
  • Participate in coordination of work between the various project teams and departments
  • Ensure optimized workflow and work processes within the Fab Shop
  • Actively engage in the promotion of the company
  • Follow all health and safety / personal protective equipment policies, regulations, and legislation
  • Follow all Defined Designs Quality System procedures and policies

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • College or trade school level education, or equivalent work related experience required
  • Active welding/fabrication certificates
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar management role
  • Minimum 8 years of hands on welding/fabrication experience

Compensation and Requirements

  • Family benefit package (as per defined Designs group plan)
  • 4% vacation pay will be added to the regular Salary
  • Hours are 8am to 5pm, Mon-Fri, including a ½ hour paid lunch and a total of one hour is permitted for breaks during the work day.
  • Statutory holidays are calculated at 1.5 times pay on hours exceeding 88 hours per pay period, overtime must be approved by senior management. You may be requested to work up to 48 hours in a week
  • A 42.5 hour week must be maintained unless written notice from management is obtained.
  • Days off, including sick days, grievance days and vacation days are not paid
  • 3 or more consecutive sick days must be accompanied with a doctor’s note
  • 11 days’ vacation time is permitted per calendar year with no carry-over time allotted
  • Vacation days must be requested using vacation request form and receive consent, 4 or more consecutive days are required to have 90 days’ notice. Requests for 1-3 days must have 30 days’ notice.
